AGAWAM PARK TRACK MUDDY High Hedge Atones for Recent Defeat by Taking Feature Weather Conditions Also Disagreeable. AGAWAM, Mass., June 18 Turning in an exceptionally fast race over a track that was surfaced by mud from heavy rains overnight and breaking away from the starting point with his customary alertness, High Hedge, swift-running four-year-old colt In the stable of H. L. Bowers, atoned for a recent defeat when he sped to a front-running triumph in the Winsted Purse, an allowance affair, run, as the sixth race on the Agawam program today. Opposed by five other shifty sprinters the five and one-half furlongs distance, the Tall Timber colt turned the tables on $. J. Meehans consistent filly, Patsey Begone, who scored when the two met just recently, and proved himself a sprinter better than average when he ran the short distance in 1:06. Ridden expertly by L. Pikor and leaving no doubt as to his ability to negotiate an uneven surface, High Hedge gave his best to win by one length over Patsey Begone, who finished two lengths over Bobs Boys, who was making his first start in over a month. The others under silks were Jean Lee, Four Spot and Indiana. High Hedge was racing along at a rapid rate as he set the pace and the one length advantage he had during the early part of the contest was his final margin as he flashed across the line. Patsey Begone could not cut down any of the colts margin and she had to be content with second, when she finished two lengths before the Mrs, H. J. Mohr starter. With overhead and track conditions poor, a large crowd braved the threat of rain and witnessed some excellent sport.
