XALAPA CLOWNS COMING ENGAGEMENTS IN THE EAST LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 22. Moving on to New York following the Kentucky Derby, Xalapa Clown, Mrs. Bessie Franzheims nominee for the 0,000 Churchill Downs race, has a number of metropolitan engagements, including the Dwyer Stakes and Brooklyn Handicap at Aqueduct, trainer A. C. Dettwiler announced here today. The son of Eternal and Loma Linda is not eligible to start in the Preakness Stakes, to be run after the Derby, Dettwiler indicating that he preferred not to take a chance over-racing the Franzheim star. Too, he raced during the winter, and in some of his trials here this spring has not been too enthusiastic about his work. Some horsemen who have observed him in action here feel that he is none too eager to extend himself, and that he may be sour from his long training and racing ordeal. Whether they are right remains to be seen, as Dettwiler, who naturally knows the horse best, takes the opposite view and is sure Xalapa Clown will give an excellent account of himself at the local track.
