DEFEND FORDS RIGHT WASHINGTON, D. C, April 22. Henry Fords constitutional right to advise his thousands of employes against joining a labor union was stanchly defended today before the National Labor Relations Board by Frederick Wood, attorney for the Ford Company. In oral argument on the Labor Boards charges that the Tord Company had engaged in unfair labor practices, Wood challenged NLRB Chairman J. Warren Maddens contention that Ford violated the Wagner Act in expressing his opinions on Unions. "Anything the employer does to attempt to influence the reason of an employe is not within the condemnation of the Wagner statute," Wood argued. The Ford counsel thus indicated that, if the Board refuses to withdraw its charges, the right of free speech would be a basis of an appeal to the courts.
