I Kentucky Derbys of Past-Charts and Future Books 1 . 1921 . . .-a The first of the four Kentucky Derby victories to the credit of E. It. Bradley was achieved in 1921 when Behave Yourself was winner with his more esteemed stablemate, Black Servant, finishing second. This was the first time in the history of the race that a stable entry led the field home, but as great as the feat was, it proved costly to the owner of the Idle Hour Farm for Behave Yourself, under the guidance of the inexperienced C. Thompson, ruined Edward R. Bradleys great prospective coup by beating" his stablemate, Black Servant, considered the strongest of the Bradley contenders. Prudeiy took third place and Tryster fourth. The Bradley pair opened at 40 to 1 and paid almost 9 to 1 in the mutuels. The Whitney entry of Prudery and Tryster commanded the most play in the "iron men" and skidded downward until they would have paid only 110 to 100. Leonardo II. and Bon Homme, carrying the Xalapa Farm Stable silks of Edward F. Simms, were second choice to the Whitney entry. Bradley stood to win hundreds of thousands of dollars on Black Servant if he won the Derby, but Thompson, young and excitable, forgot everything in the heat of battle and when challenged in the stretch drive by Black Servant, drove his mount, Behave Yourself, to his utmost and finished in front. The details of that race are shown in the following tabu-, lation: FIFTH RACE 1 1-4 MILES. Old Rosebud, May 9, 1914 2:03 3 114. Forty-Seventh 54065 KunninS KENTUCKY DERBY. 0,000 Added. 3-year-olds.
