OHIO 1939 RACING SEASON Crowd of 8,000 Turns Out for the Opening of Beulah Park Track in Bad Condition. GROVE CITY, Ohio, April 22. Ideal weather prevailed and an excellent crowd of 8,000 turned out to witness the initial days sport. The members enclosure was well patronized. Prominent among those in attendance was George Blecker of Mansfield, Ohio, chairman of the Ohio Racing Commission. Au previously predicted, however, the races were contested over a very heavy track, the mud runners having a field day. At home in the heavy going, Baby Princess, most fancied, romped to a handy victory in the second event. Jockey C. Fields had the mount, which marked his debut at this course. Tapstick and Pedant came from far back to win their respective races, the latter only getting up in the last few yards. Willow Plume overhauled the leaders while rounding the far turn in the. fourth race after being hard ridden through the stretch, j and eventually scored by a comfortablemar-gin. Musical Jack easily disposed of the tiring pacemaker, Ottos Choice, during the i final sixteenth of the fifth race.
