I CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES F. C. Podestas Valdina Lass, which filled an engagement at Keeneland Thursday, returned to Churchill Downs to rejoin the remainder of the Podesta horses. Cliff Porter, who trains the horses of C. H. Cleary, was expected here over the week-end with the horses he took from Florida to Keeneland. The stable includes the Kentucky Derby eligible Calexico and three candidates for the Kentucky Oaks, Flying Lill, Whiskover and Elma H. The only horses Frank Abbate, Chicago owner and trainer, has at this time are Veeks and Prince Torch. They are quartered at Douglas Park. J. B. Respess, who has one of the larger stables at Churchill Downs, is confined to his hotel with a heavy cold. The horses Dominick Bella registered for the local meeting are Lifelike, Delaynot and Byroe, all stabled at Douglas Park. Odie Clelland, who conditions the horses of Mrs. R. J. Murphy, has changed his plans about sending several horses to Keeneland and instead will keep his string intact here at the Downs. S. T. Mapp, who has five horses at the Downs for M. Joseph Schmitt, Louisville attorney, is confined to his home by illness. S. Bryant Ott, Louisville horseman with a string of racers at the Downs, returned from Lexington, where he took in a days racing. George M. Hendrie, Canadian sportsman and turf patron, is expected here momentarily from Florida and, with his stable on the grounds awaiting the opening of the Downs season, he can be expected to remain here for some time. J. C. Shea is looking after the Hendrie horses here. Jack Hanover is due back here next week with the horses he took to Lexington for the racing partnership of Friedberg and Axton. a a
