EMPIRE CITY TURF NOTES -s . Frank Stevens departed for Saratoga to prepare for that meeting. John J. Kirby, who was associated with John B. Partridge for many years as foreman and assistant, announced Wednesday that he will branch out on his own and open up a public stable. Owner Partridge recommended his assistants knowledge and said that he would endeavor to secure several horses for him to train. Mill River Stable claimed Southern Gal out of the first race Wednesday afternoon from B. F. Whitaker for ,500. J. F. Quinn, Jr., claimed Red Time out of the sixth race from B. F. Whitaker for ,750. j Jockey R. Workman will fly to Chicago to ride one of the pair that trainer Max Hirsch will saddle for the Futurity for Arnold Hanger and Mrs. Parker Corning. The horses trained by Earl Sande were shipped to Saratoga Springs to await the opening of the meeting at that point. J. W. Healy transferred the J. H. Whitney horses to Saratoga Springs for that meeting. Straight Lead and Roman Flag, owned by Mrs. JParker Corning and Arnold Hanger, respectively, will be shipped from Arlington Park to Saratoga Springs after fulfilling their engagements in the Arlington Futurity Saturday.
