HAMBURGER JIM, close up from the start and saving ground to the final quarter, was taken around the leaders when straightened out in the stretch and held SAY WHEN safe. The latter, away poorly, was rushed hard to reach a contending position, continued gamely, but could hot reach the leader. HAPPY TIDINGS was sent into a good lead quickly, set the pace under steadying restraint, but tired in the final eighth. MAGNOLIA CASH, in the middle of the track from the beginning and taken extremely wide on the stretch turn, made up some ground. ROYAL CHARM could not keep up. KING TEA was through after a half mile. GLEAM, never far out of it and kept on the outside, responded quickly when placed to pressure in the final three-sixteenths and wore down KILLARNEY LASS. The latter, a sharp factor from the start, assumed a slight advantage after disposing of JO MARY, but could not retain her advantage. COMELY MAID, hard urged throughout, finished in a game manner. GERRIE P., prominent from the beginning and well handled, held on well in the drive. MISS QUALITY lacked early speed. GREEN TURBAN had no mishaps. JO MARY showed good speed for a half mile, then gave way. JOSEPHINE F. was bumped and knocked off stride at the three-eighths post and was eliminated. TERMISON, hustled into a commanding lead quickly, was taken under light restraint while setting the pace, continued gamely, but could not withstand the winner. SWALE broke slowly, was rushed hard to reach the leaders and, getting to the front momentarily, faltered right at the end. STOUT HEART, forced back at the far turn, improved his position gradually ; when taken to the outside. FLYAHEAD tired. JOHN ALLEN acted badly at the cate, was away swiftly and, taken in hand while setting the pace, shook off the early challenge "of CHANTING, then repulsed the bold bid of JUDGE LEER in the stretch and drew away in the last sixteenth. JUDGE LEER, closer up than usual in the early stages, made a determined challenge in the final quarter and got to the leader, but was not good enough. QUEEN CLARICE was prominent all the way. PETER TOKALON, taken in hand when outrun during the first half mile, improved his position rapidly in the last three-eighths, responded to brisk urging in the final three-sixteenths and outstayed GRAND CHILD. The latter improved his position steadily on the outside, challenged OURS approaching the final quarter and momentarily got to the front, but was unable to ward off the winner. SNUG saved ground while improving her position and finished gamely under urging. OURS was much used in forcing the pace and tired after three-quarters. AZAFRAN tired. CULDEE, away fast, set the pace for a half mile under pressure, then gave way suddenly and showed a poor performance. Overweight Azafran, 2 pounds.
