OPERATE ON HANKE LATONIA, Ky., July 27. Apprentice Ernest Hanke, who was stricken with an attack of appendicitis in the jockey quarters Wednesday afternoon prior to the first race, underwent an operation this morning at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Covington and was reported as doing nicely by attaches of the hospital. Dr. L. R. Northcutt performed the operation this morning, following the arrival of the boys parents from Chicago. Hanke was leading the apprentices at Latonia with a total of twenty winners when he was forced to cancel his mounts yesterday.
