EARLY DELIVERY DELIVERS Outfinishes Balmy Spring in Main Race at Empire City. Third Favorite to Win In Four Races-Completes Double for Don Meade Attendance Holds Up. NEW YORK, N. Y., July 27. With no particular feature at the Hill Top course today, i the best offering of the Empire City Associ-I ation was a sprint of five and three-quarters furlongs that brought together half a dozen class "C" performers. It resulted in a bat-I tling finish in which Mrs. W. Plunket Stew-! arts Early Delivery scored a narrow victory over Edward R. Bradleys Balmy Spring and W. J. "Buddy" Hirsch took third with his j useful filly Sketchbook, which was top ! weight on the scale when she took up 118 , pounds. With so many of the best horses shipping j away to Saratoga Springs, it has been something of a task to furnish entertaining rac-i ing, but the attendance is holding up at Mr. Butlers course, and a good number of the j choices scored for the players. When Early Delivery stuck it out to beat Balmy Spring, it chalked up the third favorite score in four races and it also completed a double for Meade, he having won with Irish Moon in the preceding race. MEADE ALERT. In this sprint that had the feature position there were only six engaged and Meade had Early Delivery away in motion from the outside stall. Rushing the son of Milkman I along at his best, pace, he was able to open i : up a lead that enabled him to cross to the I inner rail. For the rest of the journey he I saved all the ground possible, and Balmy I Spring was the only one that gave the back-, ers of the favorite any real concern. The son of Black Toney, which showed greatly improved form over his last previous effort iWhen he was going stride for stride with Early Delivery.
