JACK HODG1NS— Trainer of Wondring, winner of the Blus Larkspur Purse. Rounds Out Saddle Triple for J. Adams Homebred Dixiana Filly Hits Wire Length and Half Ahead Of Countess In at Homewood By J. J. MURPHY Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 31 — Jockey Johnny Adams, leading-rider at Lincoln Fields meeting, registered three victories in the first six races here today to boost his score of winning mounts on the meeting to 15, an average of one a day. Adams scored all three successes by sending his mounts through openings in the stretch. The squatty pilot looked particularly good aboard Dixianas Wondring, who was favored in. the featured Blue Larkspur Purse at six furlongs. For a "time in the early running it seemed as if Wondring was destined to disappoint, but Adams perseverance saved the day. The winning margin for Wondring was well over one length, with Countess In finishing second and Diamond Lane, third. The start of the Blue Larkspur was delayed for many minutes while a substitute jockey was being obtained for War Talk, the third choice. War Talk became unruly as the horses were entering the gate and jock Doug Dodson was thrown when the bridle broke. Dodson lay prone on the track while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance, while War Talk dashed up the mile chute and remained there until captured. The extent of Dodsons injuries were a couple of severe bruises on hip and right arm. He cancelled his remaining engagements. In Close Quarters Early To get back to the actual running of the race, the favored Wondring was off slightly back of the early leaders and in close quarters. Mr. Bam went out to make the early pace with Enforcer second, and Countess In third. Countess In forged to the front rounding the stretch turn, although she went a trifle wide in taking command. Nearing the eighth pole Wondring and Diamond Lane moved up and when the latter was in close quarters and forced to take up, Wondring had the right of way. He spliced through the opening and was under pressure at the end. The attendance for the day after the holiday was 8,248 and the track was fast. Jockey Johnny Adams increased his margin over the other reinsmen at this meeting when he won two of the first five events on the card. Adams started off the afternoon by bringing the maiden Jolly Jackie through on the inside on the stretch turn and in the fifth walloped the four-year-old Bogalusa, through an opening in the stretch to win with a fair amount of Continued on Page Thirty-Eight Wondring Completes Triple For Jockey Adams in Saddle Continued from Paae One ease. Another jockey, whose winning feat was worthy of note, is Earl J. Knapp, who was accepting his first mounts at this meeting today. After being beaten in. the opener, he won the fourth race with Red Frances, who was making her first appearance here. Jockey Paul Bailey, who is runner-up to Adams in the jockey standings, came through with his daily winner in the third, which brought together a field of maiden three-year-old fillies. Bailey had the leg up on So There, a daughter of Ocean Wave, who had started but twice previously. The miss caught the long-priced Hadrairii in the stretch to win going away. Cee-Light, in from Churchill Downs where she finished second in her last start, was the favorite but could finish no better than third. : t i
