Connors Corner By "CHUCK" CONNORS — — Chief of Chart Correspondents—— BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 31. — Walter M. Jeffords and John Hertz are regulars at Belmont Park these afternoons. They are ♦ ♦ both quiet, unassuming men but their cup of happiness is overflowing due to the success of their respective stallions Pavot and Count Fleet. These two sires, through the prowess of their offspring, have bounded to the forefront of the breeding ranks and the outlook than the dreams of a Daily Double player. Pavot has a colt named The Pimpernel and this juvenile, after setting a worlds record at Belmont Park, moved on to Delaware Park yesterday to pick up a stake offering, the Christiana, his first, and bring his total earnings to 4,625. The Pimpernel was sold during the Saratoga vendues to William Goadby Lowe, one of a consignment from the Ernst Farm for ,600. Another of his daughters, Cigar Maid, was a 2,000 buy and she has to her credit a clever triumph in the Fashion Stakes down the Widener course for a goodly-sized purse. The Pimpernel was returned to his Belmont Park stall today from Delaware, but his next appearance under colors in this area is doubtful, for he is not named for any Belmont stakes during the summer meeting. John Hertz, in glancing back through the Kentucky Derby history, set a record when Count Turf, in the colors of Jack Amiel, was home the winner. This rounded out a Derby success of a grand-sire, son and grandson hi Reigh Count, Count Fleet and Count Turf, respectively. On Saturday, the Coaching Club American Oaks is on the agenda and Kiss Me Kate, owned by Walter Jeffords and winner of one division of the Acorn, looms up as one of the popular choices.
