CAMPAIGNER was closest to the-pace on the inside, went through on the rail to be on nearly even wrms for the lead and outgamed HOLLY RIDGE. The latter established a clear lead quickly, bore out and raced wideleaving the turn and just missed. CAIFERO was outrun early, then closed well but belatedly. NEW HOPE was prominent under Urging and lacked a rally. CURIOSITY made a mild bid on the inside when hard put and weakened. MASTER MAN tired, as did GINNAS WAR. KING HAL quit after flashing speed. KNIGHT, never far back, improved his position from the outside, bore in and had to be steadied midway of the drive and disposed of HALCYARA in the late stages. The latter obtained command when PUFFBALL weakened, then tired suddenly in the final strides. MISS CAROLINA, outrun until entering the stretch, closed with a rush on the outside. CHEERMEUP had to be cautiously handled while between horses and in a trifle close. OTHELLO lacked speed, then closed strongly between horses. PUFFBALL was used up making the early pace. BOOM BOOM jumped cleanly while well placed, engaged the leader on the outside and was gradually drawing clear in the run to the finish. CICAS went into command soon after the start, held on well until the end, but was not good enough. NIGHT PATROL was always forwardly placed and faltered in the final stages. ASTRONOMER, allowed to drop back early, caught tired horses. SYRACUSE LAD bobbled at the sixth jump. GOOSE BAY tired. WUNDERPRINZ bobbled at the eleventh jump. SPLEEN fell at the eleventh jump. BATTLE MORN trailed under restraint but was never far back, was forced to swing to .nearly the middle of the track when making his bid entering the stretch, took command and was steadied along the final sixteenth mile. ALL IS WELL gained a clear advantage and came to the rail before reaching the turn, but could not resist the winner. COMBAT BOOTS was a sharp factor from the break and faltered slightly in the drive. ELIXIR had to be steadied on the turn when blocked and hemmed in, "found room on the rail entering the stretch, but failed to menace. GOLDEN TREND tired in the final quarter mile. NARVIKO, rated along on the inside while closest to the pace, gained command when BEAVER TAIL ran out and lasted over HITHERTO. The latter, forwardly placed from the beginning, was gradually getting to the winner. ESCROW broke tardily, went between horses and closed resolutely. BEAVER TAIL opened a long lead, then ran out on the turn. HERE HE IS closed willingly after beginning slowly. SNEAK broke slowly and caught tired horses. CHANCE LUCK tired in the drive.
