V Seven-Horse Field in Midway Purse Pad Lock Likely Lincoln Favorite Blenheim II. Gelding After Third Win of Illinois Season Today; Pnut Vendor Threat By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, HI., May 31.— With the more formidable members of the local thoroughbred colony inactive awaiting-Saturdays renewal of the Edward J. Fleming Memorial, lesser lights command, the spotlight on tomrrows card. Perhaps the best race on the agenda is the six furlong Midway Purse, which will bring together a shifty group of aged sprinters contesting the six furlong distance. Under the allowance conditions of the dash, Hilltop Stock Farms Pad Lock has been assigned top weight of 121 pounds, but will parade postward under a seven-pound lighter burden, including the usual allowance for apprentice Robert Lynch. Slated to oppose Pad Lock are such other speedsters as Eugene Constantin, Jr.s, Pnut Vendor, Mrs. W. E. Smiths Lady Greenwood, Marion H. VanBergs Miss Bobbin, Brent and Talbots Rebel Raider, Mrs. H. J. Damms Harry D., and Bat Girl, owned by the combined interests of , Alexander and Whitebook. Holder of Washington Park Track Record Pad Lock, holder of the five furlpiigs Washington Park track record, has scored two victories in seven tries this season, incuding one success over the local strip. In his latest start the former Calumet racer finished third to Hypostyle. Miss Bobbin, four-year-old daughter of Unbreakable and Needle, has won two of three starts. Since her arrival here she has been training satisfactorily and appears to have retained her winning form. Pnut Vendor was defeated the narrowest of margins by his stablemate Prop, in last weeks edition of the Toro Purse and it marked the third straight time he was compelled to settle for runner-up honors. Lady Greenwood and. Rebel Raider each have paraded postward once this season and improvement with additional racing can be expected. Bat Girl has shown flashes of brilliancy on occasion and in the past has come forth with her best efforts When apparently overmatched. A capacity field of the best handicap stars to appear in this sector in recent years is expected to answer the bugle for the Fleming Memorial. Contemplated starters for the stake include Sun David, Prop, Roman Bath, Yellmantown, Boling-over, Mister Morgan, Kosadus, Provocative, Johns Joy, Volcanic, Dr. Ole Nelson, Bally-dam, Sabaean, CircusClown, French Admiral, Carrara Marble, Eagle River, Lady Libby, Inseparable, Seaward, and Wine List. Carrara Marble and Eagle River received their final press for the Fleming this morning. Working in company the duo reeled off six furlongs in 1:12%. The Helen S. Reineman eligibles were timed th6 half mile in :46% and five-eighths in :59%.
