Nine-Inch Cushion on Track HAT 1 .AND ALE, Fla., May 31. — Gulf-stream Park has one of the most unusual running strips on the American turf, built on a nine-inch cushion of mud which makes the track as buoyant as it is fast. An electrifying display of speed was flashed during the running of the 1949 Gulfstream Park Handicap when Calumet Farms Coal-town equalled the worlds mark at that time of 1:595 for the mile and a quarter distance, -scoring by half a dozen lengths; c
