U. S. Bound Lasts to Gain Honors at Suffolk Course Whitlock Has Orr Colorbearer Half Length Before Jeans Jay By AVERY BROWN Staff Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 31. — Mrs. Sam Orrs homebred, TJ. S. Bound, found a field he could remain in front of inthe sixth race at Suffolk Downs this afternoon and responded to the energetic handling- of Keith Whitlock to gain a half-length decision over O. L. Fosters Jeans Jay. Mrs. J. Purpuras My Freedom finished third another length back in the six-furlong test, which was the best offering on the featureless card. Sunny weather returned to Suffolk Downg this afternoon but the 8,543 patrons resembled the "corporals guard" as compared to the large holiday crowd yesterday. The sport began over a slow race track but inprbved throughout the program to be termed "good" with the running of the fifth race. In accounting for his first race of the year, U. S. Bound needed 1:12% and those who liked his chances received 3.80 in the mutuels. False Front was the first to show as the nine starters left the barrier, but Whitlock sent TJ. S. Bound into a clear lead between horses. The margin increased to a couple of lengths *after a quarter mile. Never letting up on the pacemaker, Whitlock was really throwing his whip and boots through the final sixteenth of a mile to hold Jeans Jay oft. The Foster mare appeared headed for certain victory as she came off the rail to take to .the outside of the leader in the stretch, but the usually -f aint-hearte,d Orr stallion had it today and was not to be denied.
