Adopt Rallies Strongly for Victory! 4 TDefeats Mr. Buster By Head in Sprint WinlocKan Runner Comes From Last Place to Tally; Istan Is Third at Delaware By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 31. — Skirting the inner rail while rallying from last position, Winlochan Stables Adopt this afternoon won his first race of the year in accounting for the featured Forest "Lin Purse over John L. McKnights Mr. Buster. The margin of victory was a - head, with Brookfield Farms Istan a similar distance back and almost a length clear of Jerry McCarthys Favored Eagle Eye. The four-year-old son of Valdina Orphan and Noticing responded to the sting of Bobby Bauers whip to be up in 1:12 flat. Completely overlooked by the crowd of approximately 8,200, Adopt paid 6.00 to become the longest priced winner of the afternoon. Istan was in front along the backstretch but drdpped back to third when Mr. Buster moved between horses and Eagle Eye drove •through along the inside. Eagle Eye and Mr. Buster alternated on the front end rounding the turn, with the latter holding ft sHtrhf pdcrp ■roifVi n furlnntr tn travel Drives to Fore at Wire Istan, after dropping two lengths off the top pair, was again rallying nicely from the outside. It was inside the furlong marker that Adopt challenged along the rail and was displaying ground-gaining strides. Adopt seemed to have hung briefly, but Bauer reached back and took one last resounding crack with -the whip, and that proved the necessary tonic as Adopt drove his head to the fore right at the wire. Mi*. Buster, while giving way in the late strides, managed to stall off the late bid of Istan, as Eagle Eye became involved in a "squeeze play" right at the end. Sharpened by a single appearance at Belmont Park just a week ago, Koritza, a three-year-old gelding from the barn of Mrs. E. duPont Weir easily accounted for the six-furlong fifth race over 10 other 0,000 to ,000 three-year-olds. Jimmy Nichols was the winning rider on Koritza, who raced coupled with Luxury Tax and was second choice at .90 in the betting. Three and a half lengths behind the winner in 1:12 flat was Raymond Archers longshot, Direct Mister, with Arnold Hangers favored Baluster third. Darby dAmour, following an absence of almost two years, was brought back to the races in winning form by Richard "Whitey" Nixon, who saddled the eight-year-old to account for the days opener as. a .00 favorite. In the following race, Nixon tried the same feat with Made It, who had been away from competition for almost three years, but failed by less than a length. The wnner of this race was Casein, who paid 8.90 under Ira Hanford. The Daily Double of Darby dAmour and Casein was worth 13.60.
