• . ; Apachico DrawsOf f To Easy Accounting Victory Stable Campaigner Leads Arthur Pilate Three, Half Lengths at Monmouth " By WILLIAM PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 18. — A goodly sized crowd, estimated at 10,000, viewed the first week-day program of this meeting and the convincing triumph of Victory Stables Apachico in the fifth race. In one of the betterevents of the day, the New* York-owned six-year-old rapidly put away his opposition in the final three-sixteenths and drew out to score by three and one-half lengths. Allan J. Wilsons Arthur Pilate was closest to him and two lengths in front of Jeff-Lin Stables Cutting Edge, the favorite. . Both the attendance and the mutuel play reflected substantial gains over the corresponding program last year, which augurs well for the success of this 46-day meeting. The weather was ideal and the track fast. Peterson Winning Rider Jockey Mel Peterson, who won the Sal-vator Mile with Call Over on Saturdays inaugural card, handled Apachico, who is an Argentina-bred horse by Cute Eyes — Apachinette. The winners time for the one mile and a sixteenth was 1:45%. He paid -.60 and was third choice in the field of five. Apachico was last, some 10 lengths behind the early pace and Peterson was jogged him along steadily until he found his stride rounding the final turns, and there was no argument from the leaders when he once started his move. Blue Lantern outsprinted Cutting Edge for six furlongs, with Arthur Pilate well placed on the outside and Harpes next in line and at no time a factor. Tribute, a sleek Jersey homebred two-year-old filly owned in partnership by James Cox Brady and Howard Oots, captured the five-furlong third race today in convincing fashion. With five lengths to spare, the Reaping Reward — War Plumage filly spun off the distance in 1:00% and qualified nicely for the juvenile stakes vto which she is nominated at this meeting. Jockey Dave Gorman, fresh from the glory of a triumph aboard Counterpoint in the Belmont Stakes, was in the saddle. Tribute was making the second start of her career, having finished far back in her first appearance at Belmont Park. She receivednominal backing and paid 3.40. C. B. Bohns Clever Reward was second to Tribute, taking the position by a head over Castle Rock Farms Fear Bomb, who similarly beat J. M. Roeblings Glorious Emma.
