MURPHY ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, El., June 18. — The beautiful Post and Paddock Club was the mecca of scores of prominent persons from Chicago and vi-cinity on Arlington Parks opening day. Receiving congratulations on his twentieth year as president of the exclusive section was Ijaurance H. Armour. With the noted sportsman and Mrs. Armour were Mr. and Mrs. Farwell Winston, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Linn, and Mr. and Mrs. William B. Clow," Jr. Also dining in the clubhouse were Mr. and Mrs. Phillip D. Armour, Jr., who were hosting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bassett; Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Haywood, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Harris Haywood. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Bert Atwater were to have Mr. and Mrs. George E. Getz, Jr., and Mrs. Albert G. Atwater, Mrs. Olive Sleeper and Mrs. Mary Holmes as guests. Among others with luncheon reservations for opening * day were Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Florsheim, Mr. and Mrs. John F. Cuneo, and Charles Elliir, who was to have Stuyvesant Peabody, - chairman of the Illinois Racing Board, as one of his party. . . . Mr. and Mrs. James B. McCahey were to.be hosts to a party of 10. . . . It was announced that the annual Post and Paddock Club luncheon would be held June 27. Trainer Joe Greenough was the victim of an unusual accident this morning. While exercising Ticker Tape he was kicked in the leg by a saddle pony and sustained a fracture. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Harold Genter Mrs. Genter owns the good three-year-old Roughn Tumble » were arrivals from their home in Minneapolis, Minn., for the opening days program. . . . Mrs. Warren Wright, owner of Calumet Farm, motored in from Lexington, Ky. Mrs. Wright recently became a member of the Post and Paddock Club. . . . James Donovan, who will serve on the publicity staff, arrived from his Lexington home. He was formerly a member of the editorial staffs of the , Blood-Horse and Thoroughbred Record. . . . Jockey Andy LoTurco returned from Ak-Sar-Ben, Omaha, where he handled Hypostyle in the feature race Saturday. .... Jack OHara got in from New York and joined the Arlington Park official family. He will serve as assistant "to the stewards. ... Cliff Porter, former trainer for Brolite Farm, was an arrival and was renewing old acquaintances with officials and horsemen. Keith Carter, of the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau, returned-from Den-! ver where he went to supervise the setting up of the organization at Centennial Park I . . .Buddy Leavitt, who is supervising the conditioning of the western filly, Ruth Lily, I reports the miss in excellent shape. It amounted to 6,524, thereby dipping into the days handle considerably. Apprentice Al Widman, who was injured when thrown after the finish of a race Friday, happily and luckily escaped with a bruised leg:, but will spend a few days in idleness Willie Fronk, acting for C. C. Tanner, has sold the two-year-old, Goliad, to J. W- Snider, and the youngster will be shipped to Detroit in charge of Joe Bilberry. First Security and Frank Munns, owned by H. Nevin, have been turned over to Jess Byrd to train. The veteran replaces C. C. Caudle, who plans to return to the West Coast . . . The two -year -old Eternal Moon and Blue Volt,. the property of the Emerald Hills Stable, arrived from New York where they were starters in the National -Stallion Stakes... M. L. Stucker has shipped six head to Detroit and Maurice Whitebrook has departed for the same point with 12 . Marvin Level will send six horses to Waterford Park. Owner Tom Gray, of Oklahoma, was in the opening day crowd. The pari-mutuel business at the Lincoln Fields meeting totaled 0,143,279, an increase of about 14 per cent over 1950. The attendance was up about 7 per cent, the total for the meeting being 306,173... Johnny Adams, who has returned from Delaware Park, led the riders despite the fact he was seen on only three horses during the final week. William Hal Bishop was top owner and trainer, saddling 11 winners. . . .Raymond Haight, who will serve as announcer at Arlington and Washington Parks for the first time this season, got in from Maryland. He is the son of Walter Haight, veteran sports writer. . .Sammy Roberts, who served as outrider at Sportsmans Park and then returned to the saddle, has departed for Centennial Park, Denver, where he will be seen in action during the coming meeting at that point. The odds are strictly against us picking three winners for Tuesday, but if any one of the following wins, the bankroll will not suffer.
