C, June 18.— Worried congressional leaders huddled with mobilization officials today as it became almost certain President Truman would not get the strong wage-price-rent controls he wants. The Defense Production Act, -which contains the controls, expires June 30. Bevan Blasts U, S. LONDON, England, June 18.— Aneurin Bevan, who quit the British cabinet to lead the rebellious left wing of the Labor Party, accused "leaders of public opinion" in the United States today of being in a "state of mind bordering on hysteria." Flight Operations Normal NEW YORK, N. Y., June 18. — Pan American World Airways, flight operations returned almost to normal today following settlement of a two-day strike by 1,000 employes. The strike began Friday when 89 mechanics, 69 of them were employed by the American Overseas Airlines before EAA bought the airline, were laid off. It spread to 1,000 employes before the settlement was reached Sunday night. De Gaulle Tops Reds PARIS, France, June 18. — Gen. Charles de Gaulles right wing party, "Rally of the French People," today succeeded the Communists as Frances largest individual party, in incomplete returns from Sundays election for a 627-seat National Assembly or Parliament. However, the government middle-of-the-road "third force" coalition was far ahead* ui the groupings of rightist-centrist-lef tist blocks, and likely will form the new government. Packer Will Shut Down PITTSBURGH, Pa., June 18.— Oswald and Hess Co., this citys biggest independent meat packers, said today it will shut down Saturday because the governments price regulations on beef are causing the company to lose money. Some 900 workers will be idled. Chiang Demands Voice TAIPEH, Formosa, June 18. — Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek demanded anew today that Nationalist China be given an equal voice with the United States and Britain in the shaping of a peace treaty for Japan. He warned that a treaty drafted without Nationalist participation "may seriously damage the traditional friendship between the Chinese and American peoples." Kefauver Wont Run WASHINGTON. D. C, June 18.— Senator Estes Kefauver D„ Term. again has taken himself out of the running for the Democratic nomination for president. "I have no intention of running for the presidency," he said today, "and Im not doing anything about it." Considers New Move LONDON, England, June 18. — Britain was reported today to be considering the release of blocked advance payments on oil royalties to Iran on the condition that Iran agrees to resume friendly negotiations to settle the current oil dispute. Britain ceased making the advance payments in April after Iran nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company. UN Gains Two Miles TOKYO, Japan, June 18.— United Nations spearheads struck north nearly two miles in Korea today against Communist forces massing for what may be an imminent new offensive. At the same time, U. S. F-86 Sabrejets shot down five Soviet-built Mig-15 jet fighters and damaged two others in- the second straight day of dog-fighting near the Manchurian frontier.
