Michigan Notes DETROIT, Mich., June" 18. Roy C. Gillem returned from Lexington, Ky., after visiting his daughter, Connie, who recently underwent surgery. Gillem took over the training of his public stable, which was under the supervision of his father, J, C. Gillem, during the enforced absence. William O. Hicks received the Jfive-year-old chestnut geldingj Storm Bird,* a son of Whirlaway and Lady Lark, by Blue Larkspur, after the plater arrived here by van from Mark Leachs Greenacres Stock Farm. D. L. Weitzel, acting for the locally-owned Tic Toe Stable, sold the five-year-old plater, Cock Crow, to Jack Tribula at private terms. Cock Crow is to be rested until the Hazel Park meeting, according to word from his new owner and trainer. Max Marmorstein, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Key West, Fla., was on hand Thursday to witness the winning performance of his three-year-old colt, Sonny M„ in the Oakland Hills Purse. Marmorstein returned to Cleveland late Thursday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Michael J. Hoydic and their sons, Mickey and Pat, came up from their Flint, Mich., home to witness Saturdays sport at the local track. The Hoydics have a useful stable in training here under the supervision of J. W. Johnston. "Robert L. Irwin, assistant to owner and trainer Marion H. VanBerg, will depart Friday night for Arlington Park to take over a section of the Nebraska-owned stable. VanBerg, is due here Saturday to look after the Detroit division of the VanBerg unit.
