Twenty-four three-year-old fillies have been named for the 5,000 added Cleopatra, to be run Monday, opening day, and 46 two-year-olds for the Primer, to be decided Wednesday, June 18. The Primer is at five and one-half furlongs and the Cleopatra at six furlongs. Among the more important fillies named for the Cleopatra are the Calumet Stables Real Delight, winner of the Kentucky Oaks, the Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico, and the Coaching Club American Oaks at Belmont; Last Greetings, winner of the Santa Ynez and Santa Barbara Stakes at Santa Anita last winter; Free for Me, winner of a divi- sion of the Ashland Stakes at Keeneland; Whirla Lea, who was second to Real Delight in the Kentucky Oaks; Recover, second to Cinda in the Betsy Ross Stakes at Garden State Park; Crownlet, who last year won the Lafayette and the Debutante in Kentucky, and Bella Figura, who recently fin- ished second to Oh Leo at this meeting. Meanwhile, several stables moved over here from Hawthorne to begin preparations for Mondays opening. Del Holeman, master of Pilot Knob Stud at Gallatin, Tenn., moved in 10 horses and plans to ship in 10 more either Friday or Saturday. Holeman has a public stable and included among his patrons are Dunn and Kirkpatrick and B. W. Stark. Elaine Ruth, an eligible to the Cleopatra, is among his charges. Roy Waldron bedded down 16 members of the Clifford Mooers Stable, this shipment likewise coming from Hawthorne. Waldron has Last Greetings and Orcas, the latter also a Cleopatra eligible, in his care. Robert Mattingly arrived with eight members of the Mr. and Mrs. William Veeneman and L. J. Hollenbach stables. The swift two-year-olds, Dean Cavy and Happy Carrier, headed the shipment. Irving Florsheims Red Top Farm, trained by Dave Hum, has six head in quarters, while Nate Raffelmans 10-horse string under the direction of Angelo Cilio also came over from Hawthorne. William Perry, who conditions the Hurwich and Win-ski unit, checked in with four head.
