June 12. — Doctor Cooper, the rags-to-riches pacer, will make another assault on May-wood Parks track record for the mile tomorrow night when he joins a field of seven in the ,000 Chicago Press Photographers Pace. Owned by Raleigh Pollard of Carmi. 111., Doctor Cooper equaled a four-year-old Maywood mark last Saturday by pacing a mile in 2:03%. The eight-year-old Bim Direct gelding led all the way to annex his second victory of the year under the guidance of driver Tom Pollard, youthful University of Illinois medical student. It was the fastest performance at Maywood since Jimmy Creed established the track record in 1948. Opposing Doctor Cooper in the Photographers Pace will be Ladys Leon, Mr. Primrose, Dellwood, Terrywill, and Red Sails. The stake will raced as the sixth and ninth races, both at one mile. For Red Sails and Doctor Cooper the race will provide a final warmup test before the 0,000 added Chicago Pacing Derby June 20. Red Sails, owned by H. T. King of Lynn. Ind., will be driven by young Gene Riegle. who already has brought home 15 winners for the meeting. The four-year-old son of The Abbot, undefeated this season, swept both dashes of the recent Memorial pace at Maywood. Edward McGill, acting president of the Chicago Press Photographers Association, will preside at the winners circle ceremonies. He will be assisted by Miss Ruth Pepel, chosen by Chicago lensmen as Miss Photoflash of 1952. Another Pacing Derby hopeful, actor Charles Coburns Rush Hour, is favored in field of seven in the National Secretaries Pace. A mile A-class pace, the race is named for the Chicago chapter of the Secretaries Association, whose members will be guests of the track for the evening. Opposing Rush Hour, who will be after his first victory here, are Chief Strong, Chief Mite, Dale Wingay, Goose Island, Laura Jane Tryax, and Miss Shine-A-Mite.
