Cubs Clip Philadelphia Again, 3 to 1 North Siders Sweep Three-Game Series Hacker Limits Visitors To Five Hits in Posting Fourth Victory of Season By the United Press The Chicago Cubs won their third straight game and extended the Philadelphia Phils losing streak to four with a 3 to 1 triumph yesterday as Warren Hacker allowed only five hits in his second start of the season. It was Hackers fourth win against one defeat as he turned in his second complete game. The only run he allowed was Del Ennis fifth homer of the season in the fourth inning. Robin Roberts, charged with his fourth loss against seven wins, worked the first seven innings before he was relieved for a pinch hitter. He gave up 11 hits and all the Chicago runs. Jim Konstanty finished the game. It was Philadelphias 10th loss in the 12-game Western road trip and closed the Cubs home stand with 13 victories and only four losses. For the Cubs it was the eighth win in the last nine games and the 15th in the last 19. Sauer Goes Hitless Hank Sauer, who yesterday collected three home runs, failed to get a hit. But his long fly in the first inning drove home Bob Addis, who had singled and advanced on Gene Hermanskis single, with the first Cub run. It increased Sauers league-leading runs batted in total to 59. His league leading batting average slipped from .352 to .345. The second and winning Chicago run came in the sixth inning when Hermanski was hit by a pitched ball and scored on Toby Atweirs double. The last Chicago tally was in the seventh as Roy Smalley doubled and scored on Hackers single. The win left the Cubs a half game behind the second place New York Giants, rained out today, and 4y2 behind the leading Brooklyn Dodgers. Score by innings: R. H. E.
