; 1 I [ 1 1 1 1 . Dudley Hanover Goes to Post Favorite in Downing Memorial WESTBURY, L. I., June 12.— The Hayes ; Fair Acres pacing great from Du Quoin, 111., Dudley Hanover, with Benny Schue in the sulky, will go to the post the favorite in the Benjamin W. Downing Memorial, mile and one-half pacing feature at Roosevelt Raceway tomorrow night. Arrayed against the Middle Western great, a five-year-old chestnut horse by Billy Direct who has already won the 5,000 added Golden West Pace on the West Coast this spring, will be some of the finest amblers active in the game today. Starting from the pole position with Highland Ellen will be Guy Crippen, who finished third a year ago to Scottish Pence and Indian Land while aligned alongside her in the first tier will be Ankaway, Fer-man Hanover, Prince Jay, Irish Hal, The Black Prince, Express Hal and Stormyway. Dudley Hanover qualified for the final dash with a 2:02% performance over the I mile route a week ago, moving up sharply j in the stretch to overhaul the flying Fer- ; man Hanover, with Highland Ellen third. The second qualifying heat was won by ] Sol Camps Prince Jay, handled by Joe j OBrien in the leisurely time of 2:03% 1 against Irish Hal and Stormyway. |
