Hustle Gal Out to Make Amends in Sir Gallahad Outbird, Clara D., Newton Airds Among Her Rivals at Ak-Sar-Ben By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr.. June 12.— John Frances Hustle Gal. who was recently defeated by the highly-regarded Teddy Reigh, will be afforded the opportunity of atoning for that setback in tomorrows edition of the Sir Gallahad Purse. Teddy Reigh, one of the more consistent performers ever to appear in this sector, wfll be among the missing in the mile and 70 yards of the Sir Gallahad, and it Is likely that Hustle Gal will garner the major portion of the speculative interests. Hustle Gal, however, will have to be at her best to turn back several of her formidable rivals in tomorrows essay. Included among her opponents are Delia Shrivers Miss English, Alice Likins Fiery Chief, Mrs. Frances P. Bentleys Third Speed, Fawcett and Warrens Newton Airds, E. M. OBriens Outbird, Oren Sledges Little Nipper, G. J. Shimas Clara D., and Fair ODoon, owned by the partnership of R. J. and O. H. Oakley. One length separated Hustle Gal from Teddy Reigh in their last meeting, in which the filly came from well back of the early pacesetters to earn the runner-up award. Hustle Gal was also second in her second to last start, in which she was defeated by the good plater Trarab. In her first start of this meeting, Hustle Gal conquered Teddy Reigh in one of the more thrilling stretch battles of the current session. Sonny Ray Williams again will have the mount. Outbird was bested a narrow margin by Solid Red in the recent Evensong Purse and improvement from that effort is expected. Outbird reached the lead between calls during the final furlong of that event only to have his rider permit the jockey on Solid Red to slip through next the inside rail and annex the major spoils. • Harold Walker, the rider of Outbird last time, again has been assigned the mount. Clara D. has registered two successes thus far during the Omaha season, and her presence in tomorrows encounter undoubtedly will be felt. Clara D. has the necessary speed to cope with her rivals and, should she enjoy good racing luck, she should prove dangerous. Little Nipper was claimed by her present owner earlier in the meeting, but has yet to score under her new colors. The four-year-old filly was unable to score during a limited sophomore campaign, but it appears as if she is now in the best form ever. Newton Airds made his local debut in an overnight handicap, in which he was overmatched. The three-year-old should find tomorrows rivals more to his liking and he could prove a decided factor. Newtown Airds raced only twice without success as a two-year-old. Fair ODoon came forth with a creditable performance in his initial start of the meeting two days ago. It is possible that his connections are asking him to return to competition too soon. Miss English was third to Solid Red and Outbird in the Evensong Purse, in which she was beaten approximately two lengths. She must be regarded the dark horse of the group. Third Speed has been training satisfactorily and has been known to upset calculations on occasion. Fiery Chief has displayed good early speed over a distance of ground, but has failed miserably when called upon for the ultimate stretch drive.
