Starboard Stables Bated Breath gets in the dash with 114 pounds while the three-year-olds, Mrs. Howard G. Underwoods Brown Rambler and Henry Forrests Lonoke Flash each drew 107 pounds imposts. Chuck Burns probably will guide Lonoke Flash in the Thursday headliner while Dick Lawless is to pilot Bated Breath and Alfred Popara rides Brown Rambler, Whether or not the younger entrants. Brown Rambler and Lonoke Flash, can stay with their older rivals is the question as far as the River Rouge Purse is concerned. Brown Rambler, a Kentucky Derby starter, visited the winners ring during the present meeting on three occasions and Lonoke Flash, consistent son of Occupation and a track record holder at Oaklawn Park, finished second in his last Detroit engagement to First Heir in the six furlongs Wolverine Purse. Brown Rambler, a handsome brown son of Sweeping Light and Mayme C, proved last Saturday that he could handle aged company when he scored a game decision over Gay Hunter, Bated Breath, Dooly, Radical. Badger and Our Kite in the eight furlongs Foremans-Purse, stepping the distance in 1:38%. Previous to that conquest, the Underwood colt annexed the Willow Run Purse and a division of the Ferndale Purse, both three-quarter mile overnight races. Brown Rambler, however, finished third behind First Heir and Lonoke Flash in the Wolverine Purse, lacking his usual early foot in that event. Recent morning trials of both Lonoke Flash and Brown Rambler stamp the pair quite ready for therr Thursday engagements. Suffki, an old- favorite with Michigan racing followers, certainly was impressive June 6 in capturing the Hamtramck Purse. The six-year-old Suffern-sired gelding. who was making his second start of the year in the local sprint, whipped such quick rivals as Dear Tint, Miss Bobbin, Bee Lee Tee, Nephisto and Air Flight, among others, completing his ask in a commendable 1:11%. Bated Breath, a five-year-old Okapi mare, has been unable thus far to get a decision at the Detroit race course, although she finished second to the highly -regarded Dixie Flyer in the Inaugural Purse, May 23. Previous to her shipment north„the Starboard Stable mare was good enough to chalk up four Florida victories over shifty company and it must be remembered that she has been engaging the best available competition in her local outlings. Hot Penny is no stranger to Motor City Patrons, the four-year-old Curious Coin gelding won twice at Hazel Park last year and also raced rather well at the local course. The Sukundo representatives best 1952 performance came about on January 19 at Hialeah where he skipped three-quarters mile in 1:10% to vanquish such speedsters as Bully Boy, Little Falls, Thee and Me, War Poppy, Dalpark and Mass OGold. The six furlongs fifth race for four-year-olds and upward, is the chief supporting number on the Thursday card and attracted 13 entrants. Some of the better known sprinters engaged for the secondary attraction are C. F. Wagners King Wilson, Mrs. W. O. Bridges Hals Linda, R. Meyers Odds Advance, E. H. Moodys Texas Rain, Richard A. Connells Merry Sweeper. Evans Stables Winstay and H. W. Kellehers Hot Chocolate. Post time for the Thursday sport will be at the usual week day hour, 3:45 p. m.
