June 18. — Queen Elizabeth II. opened her first Ascot week yesterday at this famous racetrack with all the traditional royal color — but her own horse ran out of the money in the first race. In keeping with the tradition since the course here was built on orders of Queen Anne in the 18th Century, the Queen arrived in an open carrage — the first of a procession of four — drawn by the prized Windsor grays. Nowadays, however, in contrast to 1711, the Queen drove most of the way from Windsor Castle by car and changed to the carriage at Dukes Gate in Windsor Forest.
