Trio Arrives at Maywood For Pacing Derby Friday Good Time, Royal Blackstone And Solicitor to Seek Stake MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, 111., June 18 — The fastest field ever assembled for the Chicago Pacing Derby was assured by the arrival here early this week of Good Time, Solicitor, and Royal Blackstone. The three standouts, who will start Friday night in the 0,000 added Derby, worked out briefly at the west side track. Each was timed in approximately 2:06 for the one mile Derby distance. Good Time, who won both dashes of the 1951 Derby, arrived from Buffalo Raceway, N. Y., where he set a track record of 2:01 for a mile a week ago while winning the 2,000 Village Farm stake. The victory boosted to 30,000 the record total Good Time has earned for owner Bill Cane of Goshen, N. Y. Cane is the promoter of the annual Hambletonian classic. Royal Blackstone, owned by Bill Brown of Detroit, opened his 1952 campaign last Friday by winning both dashes of the Northville Open in Detroit. Royal Blackstone paced the mile in 2:03% and 2:03%, and hiked his lifetime earnings to 8,000. Solicitor, who never before has appeared on a Chicago-area track, set a record for three-year-olds last year by going a mile in 1:57% against the clock at Lexirlgton, Ky. Hanover Shoe Farms purchased him at auction for 00,000, one of the highest prices ever paid for a harness horse. The three newcomers will join such local talent as Red Sails, Doctor Coooer, and H. D. Hanover in an assault on the May-wood mile record of 2:03%. That mark was established by the great Jimmy Creed in the 1948 Derby. Both Doctor Cooper and Red Sails have mailed it in the pat two weeks. H. D. Hanovers most recent effort was a 2:04 mile, one-fifth off the record. Jerry Darnleys attempt to annex his fourth straight victory will highlight tomorrows program at Maywood. Owner Roy Riegle of Greenville, Ohio, will drive the five-year-old Darnley gelding in th» featured ninth race, a mile trot. Opposing him will be Chestnut P. Guy, Wayne Prince, Worthy Spud, Mighty Keys. Signal F., and Larry Dee.
