J., June 18 — Sugar Ray Robinson and Joey Maxim, who will be antagonistic as all get out at the Yankee Stadium Monday night, were in agreement today. Robinson, going through four-round drill, next to-last sparring session before his lunge at the world light-heavyweight championship, said he was certain the last six rounds would decide the outcome of the struggle. The day before, up at Grossinger, N. Y., Maxim had said the same thing, largely because he believes his weight advantage— perhaps as much as 15 pounds — would make the difference. Today, Robinson was in accord. Weight would be the difference, only wait! Robinson said he believed Maxim was having difficulty getting down to 175 pounds — a situation denied by the light heavyweight boss — and that this would weaken him for the stretch drive. w Robinsons emphasis on the last six rounds did not preclude the chance of an earlier knockout triumph for the middleweight champion. "Ill be throwing plenty of punches," Robinson said. "Im going to try for a knockout. You can depend on my winning, any way I can." Ray Wont Box Until Friday Robinson, who has had difficulty keeping his weight up, didnt box yesterday. After roadwork this morning, he hit 161, at least four pounds more than he had scaled Mon- day. He will not box again until Friday, his final day in the training ring. Robinsons four -round workout today was split evenly between Jimmy Cerello, a lad out of Hoboken, N. J., and Sal Belloise, of the Bronx Belloises. Robinson has sparkled in gym workouts. He hasnt been knocked on his pants, a fate suffered by Maxim, and he hasnt displayed anything new. Hell fight his fight, which based on speed of foot and hand, and nothing more. Rocky Marciano, training at Greenwood Lake, N. Y., for his July 28 affair with Harry "Kid" Matthews, was a visitor today. Marciano is a descreet young man and employed the right attitude. He said little about his opinion of the outcome. It wouldnt matter much how he felt. Hes a fighter, not an oracle. Funniest news to come down the pike from Grossingers, Maxims training venue, concerned an old chestnut. Maxims manager, Jake Kearns, who still thinks hes in the prehistoric age of Dempsey and save-the-drowning-blonde-in-the-lake ballyhoo, said he was checking Lloyds of London to learn just how much it would cost to insure Maxims life for 00,000. Maxim is due to fly down from Grossingers on Sunday. One insurance company, Continental asked a thousand as premium. This would cost Kearns ,000, which proves that the cost of publicity has kept pace with the price of bully beef. Kearns should know better, at this late date. Robinson is coming into town Monday for the weigh-in. Hell drive, not walk. Certainly, hell not fly. Hell do his flying the stadium that night.
