Level Sands Is Regarded Highly at Monmouth Park Whitney Miss Faces Blue Case, Ginger D. and Singing Beauty By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., I June 18. — Sophomore fillies will test their speed for coming stakes engagements in the six-furlong dash that features the sport on tomorrows local program. C. V. Whitneys Level Sands looms the standout of I the group that also includes J. M. Roeb- j lings Blue Case, Boncrist Farms Ginger D., Mrs. S. M. Pistorios Singing Beauty, ; Mrs. H. Gilmore Youngs Bessies Beau and i Puckety Farms Faga-La. Each of these fillies is nominated to a pair of added-money events at this meeting, although the Whitney miss is the only lone who has ambitions to match courage with the colts, being named to the six-furlong Select and the mile and a six- j teenth Lamplighter Handicaps. s The remainder of the field is comprised of young maids who may provide contention tomorrow, but are not considered stakes calibre. Foremost of these are James | Cox Bradys Tribute, a shifty performer ! here in her juvenile campaign, and J. M. I Lees Plainfield, whose impressive easy triumph last time out at Garden State gives her the right to test her mettle against the best. Level Sands, to be ridden by Al Widman with 109 pounds, is a fashionably homebred black daughter of Mahmoud — Crawfish, by Halcyon. Her last engagement was in mid-April when she finished third, beaten eight lengths, behind the winning Real Delight in the Ashland Stakes at Keeneland. Although unsuccessful in six starts this year, she has been competing with the best, and last season she registered a worthwhile record of four victories in nine starts. Blue Case, prominent in the juvenile ranks last year, appears the best of the others in class and she is expected to provide the most contention. The Jersey-bred Case Ace filly was taken out of training briefly after her start in the Betsy Ross Stakes at Garden State Park when she threw a "wing ding" and became cast under the gate. However, Blue Case has been training well recently. She is noted for early speed, while Level Sands usually comes from behind the pace. Young apprentice Roger LeBlanc has been given the mount on Blue Case, bringing her weight down to 114 pounds with the "double bug."
