June 18.— With the memory of the Yankee ] Handicap and Blue Mans convincing tri- g umph still fresh in the minds of New Eng- £ land patrons, there will be offered a sprint £ 1 number here tomorrow consisting of lesser lights in the sophomore division. Thirteen c competent sprinters from the local division g are vieing at six furlongs in the Norfolk £ for a purse of ,500 and the race shapes up as very interesting. The feature has been styled to allow the c three-year-olds which have not won two r races other than maiden or claiming to get » weight off of the 120 -pound scale. The j, allowances include three pounds for non- a winners of ,000; five pounds for ,600; s eight pounds for ,200; 10 pounds for j ,800, and 12 pounds for ,600, plus ap- prentice allowance claimed. Under this sys- c tern Phil Schwartz Busy Signal, Mrs. T. j Christophers Brother March and O. J. Ciresa, Jr.s, Utopia are equal highweights at 115 pounds. The others range down the scale to G. S. Gladney s Hay Edy, who is listed at 102 pounds, including a five-pound apprentice allowance. Under the light impost and because of f the sensational improvement registered by Hay Edy, the daughter of Hayride must be conceded the role of probable choice in the b full field. Claimed for ,000 from a win- b ning race on May 24. the swift filly has been ti elevated to better company since then and b has won twice and finished second, a half B length off Royal Marvel, in the John tl Alden Handicap.
