Y., June 18 UP.— Bobby Thomson drove in three runs with two homers and two singles and Henry Thompson also homered today as the New York Giants beat the last place Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2, before a crowd of only 3,346. Thomson, the hero of the Giant pennant victory last year, slammed his first home run of the game to put the Giants in front in the first inning and his second against the upper left field stands in the fifth. The homers increased his season total to 12 and were his third and fourth in three games. Bobby, who now has 54 runs batted in, also singled off third baseman Pete Castig- hones glove to drive in one of the two runs the Giants scored in the third inning. Thompson followed Bobbys third inning single with a run-producing single of his own and then, after Bobbys fifth inning homer, he belted a tremendous inside-the-park round -tripper which hit the wall of the Giant bullpen between the 445 and 455 foot signs. Jim Hearn, who won his fourth straight game and seventh against one defeat this season, shut out the Pirates with four hits until Pete Castiglione singled and George Metkovich homered with one out in the ninth. The defeat marked the debut of bonus player Dick Groat, who bounced out weakly Hearn as a pinchhitter in the eighth. t 8 o c £ ■ t t s i: S £ c £ £ v C c p t to c B i: g p li a
