HBPA Reaffirms Purse Demands on Hollywood Horsemen Want Flat Guarantee Of 40 Per Cent of Tracks Take TANFORAN, San Bruno, Calif., April 30. — Directors and members of the HBPA, who met Wednesday night at the San . Mateo home of Elmer C. Smith, reaffirmed their determination to stand pat on their purse demands on Hollywood Park, whose summer meeting is scheduled to begin May ; 12. Theyare demanding a flat guarantee of 40 per cent of Hollywoods share of the pari-mutuel handle. Fifteen horsemen attended the meeting r and the only director of the HBPA who was absent was the organizations attorney and spokeman, C. Ray Robinson, who is in Louisville for the Kentucky Derby. A general meeting of HBPA members is to be held in San Mateo Monday night and Robinson will be back from Kentucky in time to attend. Robert Read, national president of the group, and Tom Sheehan, * its publicity man, also will be at the meeting. No formal statement was issued following Wednesday nights meeting. Johnny Beverly, HBPA secretary, said today " that while a number of horses are now * quartered at Hollywood Park and more are e being shipped there, few in the hands of * HBPA members who are known to have agreed without reservation to race at the | Inglewood track pending the outcome of the purse dispute. Hollywood Park has commmitted itself to ■ a purse distribution of ,600,000, the highest program ever hung up at any track.
