Queen Elizabeth, Churchill Have Winners at Newmarket NEWMARKET, England, April 30 Reuters . — Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill had winners at the Newmarket races today. The Queens first winner of the season was Gay Time, a four-year-old leased to her from the National Stud, who won the March Stakes over 10 furlongs. He is a son of Rocke fella out of Daring Miss. Only three took part in the stake and the backers laid odds of 9 to 4 on Zucchero who raced in the United States last year but the five-year-old was a difficult horse at the gate. Lester Piggott jumped him off in front but Gay Time, ridden by the Australian Scobie Breasley, soon took the lead and ran on well to beat Lucious with Zucchero four lengths away. Gay Time started at 4 to 1. Prince Arthur, by King Legend out of Poetic, carried Churchills colors home on top in the 12 furlongs Botesdale Handicap. Racing into the lead three furlongs from home Sir Winstons Derby colt won by four lengths from Coote Hill with the. favorite Vangelist four lengths back of the runner-up. Ridden by E. Smith, Prince Arthur started as a 3-to-l shot in the field of 14.
