Souchock, Garver Lead Tigers to Win at Boston BOSTON, Mass., May 18 UP .—Before retiring with an injured leg, Detroit Tiger outfielder Steve Souchock batted in two runs and scored another as Ned Garver pitched a five-hit, 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a dcubleheader today. Righthander Garver struck out three and walked five for his third win of the | year in Detroits 1953 debut at Fenway Park. The triumph stretch the Tigers win streak to three games, their longest of the season. Souchock, who pulled a muscle and retired in the fifth inning, and three Red Sox castoffs, combined for three first-inning runs, all Detroit needed. After third baseman Fred Hatfield led off with a double and Johnny Pesky singled him to third, Walt Dropo knocked in one run with a single off the left field fence. Souchock doubled over rightfielder Jim Piersalls head, scoring Pesky and Dropo. In the fourth, Souchock tripled to center and slid home safely with the fourth run as Don Lung flied to center-fielder Tom Umphlett who threw accurately to the plate.
