Jamie K., Intent Prep for Stakes Former Impressive in Mile Work for Preakness, Latter Is Ready for Metropolitan BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I.. N. Y., May 18. — Two horses who are pointing for major stakes on different fronts next Saturday indicated their present fitness for those races during the training hours at Belmont Park this morning. Spring Hill Farms Jamie K., who will be Eddie Ar-caros mount in the Preakness and rates serious consideration on that account, if j for no other reason, turned in an impressive move when he went a mile in 1:41% in handy style. The son of Crowfoot, who has never been a brilliant work horse, es-specially when unaccompanied, worked alone this morning and reeled off the fractions in :37, :49%, 1:02, 1:14% and 1:27%. Jamie K. comes from two stretch-running victories at a mile and a sixteenth here and was ridden by Arcaro in both races. In discussing his Preakness chances, Arcaro said: "I dont know if hell beat the top horses, but he looks like my best shot." Brookfield Farms Intent, who has not started since he won the San Juan Capis-trano Handicap at a mile and three-quarters at Santa Anita on March 7, was sent a rapid mile this morning, instead of starting in tomorrows six-furlong Joe H. Palmer Handicap. The son of War Relic wore blinkers and was given a brisk hand ride as he stepped the mile in 1:38%. Intent broke off at the seven-furlong pole and skipped the fractions in :23%, :35, :46%, 1:11% and 1:24% over a track that was still sloppy, though drying fast. Frightened by Stable Fire Intent was brought east to point primarily for the Gallant Fox, Metropolitan and Suburban Handicaps, but was badly frightened by the stable fire at Jamaica late in March and spent a brief time on his owners Maryland farm to settle his nerves. This mornings move suggests Intent will be ready to give a good account of himself in Saturdays Metropolitan mile. Two juvenile fillies with engagements in Wednesdays National Stallion Stakes worked cleverly for that fixture. Green-tree Stables Mainsail stepped three furlongs in :35%, just breezing, while Maine Chance Farms Fascinator was clocked in :36. Ben F. Whitakers three-year-old filly, Grecian Queen, stepped a handy six furlongs on 1:14% for the Coaching Club American Oaks, to be renewed at a mile and three furlongs on June 6. Grecian Queen was a disappointing favorite in the Acorn Stakes last out, after having won four straight, but was taken to the inside, where she has always raced badly. On Sunday morning, Whitakers Tahi-tian King worked a handy mile in 1:40% and galloped out a mile and a furlong in 1:55. The Polynesian colt is a Preakness candidate, though he ducked Native Dancer in the Withers. Tahitian King sped the fractions in :36, :48%, 1:01, 1:13%, 1:26%.
