DON JR. was nicely rated while in front and was mildly roused to hold TEMPTING safe. The latter broke tardily, was taken up when in close quarters leaving the backstretch and made up considerable ground. CHANTER showed an even effort. SLUSH held a favorable position but lacked a response when placed to pressure. ARIELENE weakened. BILLY CLIFTON flattened out badly following a brief display of speed. YOUNG TURK was always far back. ROYAL BAY GEM, closer than usual to the early pace, responded smartly when roused and outfinished DARK STAR. The latter was steadied just off the pace, attained a slight lead briefly between calls entering the stretch, then gave way in the late stages. RAM 0 WAR was kept under restraint while along the inside, secured room when straightened for the drive and closed willingly. CORRESPONDENT broke a bit tardily, attained prominence early, wrested command nearing the stretch and faltered in the late stages. COUNTRY GOSSIP broke slightly to the inside, then gave way soon after a half mile.
