Joliet Stakes Draws Forty Nominees Heads Saturdays Lincoln Program Mr. Prosecutor, Everett Jr. Top Roster; Peabody Prep Purse Boosted to 0,000 HAWTHORNE, Cicero, HI., May 18.— With 40 nominations for the 5,000 Joliet Stakes and a boost in the advertised purse for the Peabody Prep, both to be run next Saturday, Lincoln Fields officials are setting the stage for their first week-end of the 1953 season, which opened here at Hawthorne today. The Peabody Prep has been increased from ,500 to 0,000. It is a one and one -sixteenth mile event for three-year-olds and is fashioned as a preliminary opportunity for candidates for the 0,000 Peabody Memorial Stakes on Memorial Day, May 30. Nominations for the mile and one-eighth Peabody itself close on Wednesday this week, while entries for the Prep are to be made at the usual time on Friday. This will be the twenty-sixth running of the five-furlong Joliet Stakes for the two-year-old colts and geldings, which annually is the first stakes race of the Illinois season for juveniles. Victor in Bashford Manor Among the 40 nominees for the Joliet are Mark Leachs Mr. Prosecutor, recent winner of the Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs, and the sensational Everett Jr., first of the new crop of juveniles to win this year and also the first of his age to become a stakes winner. He is owned by Everett Lowrance, of New Orleans. Mr. Prosecutor, whose name fits the occasion appropriately enough, will appear in the role of an avenger for his sire, Occupation, the former "Futurity specialist." Occupation tried for the Joliet in 1952, but was outrun by Littletown and finished second to that son of Jamestown. The 40 Joliet nominees represent 31 different owners. Largest subscribers with three each, were N. A. McMasters Cresson Farm, of Texas, and Dr. H. H. Mundy, of Pawhuska, Okla., who now operates the old Le Mar stock Farm at Lexington, Ky.
