William Penn to Engage ; Juveniles This Week End ] Large Field From 141 Eligibles | Expected at Garden State Park I ! By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 18. — The next stake on the agenda here is the 0,000 added William Penn, a five-furlong scamper restricted to juvenile colts and geldings that will have its 11th renewal on Saturday. A total of 141 candidates have been nominated, and a large field is anticipated. c ; ] | I ! Heading the list of eligibles on the basis , of recent performances are Brookfield 1 1 Farms undefeated I Appeal, hero of the recent Kindergarten Stakes at Bowie, and C. V. Whitneys Catspaw, who skimmed off the top spoils of Belmont Parks Juvenile Stakes. Putnam Stables Swift Sword, who finished third behind Catspaw in the Juvenile after an excellent turn of early speed, is another highly regarded possibility. Full Flight and Quick Lunch, both of whom have performed capably in stakes competition, form good representation for the Wheatley Stable, while the silks of New Jersey Owner, William G. Helis, Sr. Rippish has shown excellent speed trials in morning workouts and is reported to be up to the task. James V. Tiganis General Jay is certain to attract interest, if only sentimentally. General Jay is a son of Double Jay, whose four stakes victories at Garden State Park has never been equaled. The William Penn is a potential springboard for many ambitious youngsters, with several of the eligibles also nominated for the 00,000 added Garden State, the richest race in the world for juveniles, to be run October 31.
