Apprentice D. Baldwin Rides First Winner at Beulah Park BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 18. — David Baldwin provided the hometown folks with something to cheer about when he rode to the first triumph of his riding career in the third race of the program today aboard East View Stables two-year-old. Malleable, over a sticky track which was officially termed muddy. Baldwin was not the most experienced rider at the start of the five-furlong dash but he did not lose his head, allowing the juvenile, who also started the day a maiden, to settle into stride before setting after the early leaders. The 28-year-old apprentice who is an alumnus of neighboring Ohio State Jniversity, urged his mount into closer contention rounding the turn and at the finish was three and a half lengths clear of the opposition while going along in handy fashion. Malleable paid 7.40 for his diploma while providing his rider with the magic first trip to the winners circle.
