Cockpit Looms Favorite In Ascot Best Offering Eichler Performer Coming Off Good Race in Diamond Ring Test ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, May 18. — It rained over the week end here in northern Ohio leaving the track in a sloppy condition today and it was another hard task for racing secretary Raleigh Leigh to close the entries. He finally accomplished the task and has arranged a good card considering the circumstances. The feature will be the eighth race, as usual, and it has drawn a field of seven horses going six and a half furlongs, under allowance conditions. Those slated to start are, Gay Larkspur, Friar Bill, Cruel Sea, Emergency Hour, Cockpit, Brass Hat and Evenesta. Cockpit, owned by New Yorker Loe Eichler, appears to have a decided edge in this event. The son of Whirlaway was last seen in action on Saturday in the Diamond Ring Handicap and in that event wound up second to Even Better, after leading most of the way in a fine effort. This field does not in anyway compare to that of Saturdays race, so Cockpit is worthy of going to the post as the choice. Emergency Hour has started here once since shipping in from Garden State Park and was second to Country Editor, being beaten a nack at the wire. At Garden State Emergency Hour placed in his best race. Of the others Evenesta usually can be counted on for a good performance especially over an "off" track.
