Stewards Rulings SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, III., May 18. — The final day of this 21-day meeting brought a 150.00 fine by the stewards for jockey Michael Weissman for insubordination to a racing official following the fifth race of May 16. BEULAH PARK, Grove City, Ohio, May 18. — The stewards here today issued the following ruling: "On the report of the state chemist that the saliva sample of Silver Reward, winner of the second race Saturday, May 9, contained nicotinamide, owner-trainer E. Schaeffer and trainer W. H. Titler are suspended for 30 days, May 18 to June 16, inclusive, for violation " of Ohio State Racing Commission Rule No. 260, which deals with administration of internal medication within 48 hours prior to a race. During this period all horses owned wholly or in part by E. Schaeffer or trained by E. Schaeffer or W. H. Titler stand suspended. "Under the provisions of rule No. 257 of the Ohio State Racing Commission, the purse of the second race Saturday, May 9, is hereby redistributed as follows: First, Widdeford; second, Red Frances; third, Miss Richards; fourth, Little Joe Jr. Pari-mutuel betting on the race is not affected." DUFFERIN PARK, Toronto, Ont., May 18. — The stewards issued the following ruling: "Apprentice jockey Leonard Pong is fined 0.00 for failing to keep a straight course from the gate in the second race on Saturday, May 16. "In the fifth race on Saturday, May 16, War Digit, who finished second, was disqualified and placed last for ducking in and impeding the inside horses in the stretch run. Jockey Bert Albert, who rode War Digit, was held blameless." PIMLICO. Baltimore, Md., May 18.— The stewards today announced that jockey Jimmy Nichols had been suspended 10 days for his ride astride the disqualified Squared Away in Saturdays Baltimore Spring Handicap. Squared Away caused crowding soon after the start of that stakes and finished eight lengths clear of his pursuer, only to have his number taken down. Nichols suspension runs from Tuesday, May 19, through Friday, May 29. SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 18. — The stewards here today issued the following ruling : "Jockey John H. Smith, rider of Milan Boy, is suspended 10 racing days, May 19 to May 29, inclusive, for careless riding during the running of the ninth race May 16." AGUA CALIENTE, Tia Juana, Mexico, May 18. — The stewards here issued the following rulings. "For failing to maintain a straight course in the stretch during the running of the seventh race, Sunday, May 17,1953, apprentice jockey Ronald E. Khlers. who rode Slick Trick, is suspended for 10 racing days, beginning May 18, 1953. "For ilegal use of the -whip during the run through the stretch in the ninth race, Sunday, May 17, 1953, jockey Angel Valenzuela, who rode Bird Shooter, is suspended for 10 racing days, commencing Monday, May 18, 1953." WHEELING DOWNS, Wheeling W. Va., May 18. — Malcolm T. Brief, steward representing the West Virginia Racing Commission here, today issued the following statement to whom it may concern: "The West Virginia Racing Commission announces the suspension of Louis Rivera expired December 31, 1952, and he is now in good standing. He has not applied for a license at Wheeling Downs." PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 18.— Jockey Luis Torres has been suspended 10 days by the Pimlico stewards for having caused a disturbance in the jockeys room following the sixth race Saturday. In that race, Torres was astride Jack Kroeses Rowdy, who set the pace and finished last. The suspension runs from Tuesday, May 19, through Friday, May 29.
