Delaware Parks Stable Area Open for Horsemen Get First Look at Several New Features at Stanton Course DELAWARE PARK. Stanton, Del., May 18. — Horsemen and their employes have received their first look at Delaware Parks new features for their protection and comfort the stable area having opened yesterday and the tracks fire and police departments are in high gear. From now on, activity will increase daily as thoroughbreds arrive for the May 29 launching of Delawares 32-day race meeting. One of the busiest men will be John Loome of the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau, who has charge of the tracks protective forces. Effective with the stable area opening, a fire jeep is completely patroling that area and the entire plant at least hourly every night. The jeep is fully equipped to handle an average fire on the spot, but if necessary, assistance will be available from a combination pumper and tank truck and two track sprinklers. All have pumpers and there are thousands of feet of hose. Many portable hand fire extinguishers are attached to the barns and fire hydrants are available at strategic points. Experienced firemen recheck and test all equipment so that it is always ready for use. * The sergeant of each shift makes a motor patrol of the plant every hour. This is separate and independent of the fire jeep patrol, and in addition to the night watchmen system whereby men, covering 36 punch clock stations in the stable area, patrol their respective areas on hourly rounds. The security set-up also is so coordinated that it is in constant touch with state police. Between tomorrows opening of the stable area and the first day of the race meeting, several fire drills will be staged, with another scheduled for a morning during the meeting. Among the new features for the horsemen are the additional bunkhouses to adequately house stable workers and get them from sleeping in barns with the horses, as a fire prevention measure; fire walls constructed in the barns, and a new automatic fire alarm and control panel system recently announced by Delaware Park.
