Native Dancer and Shoemaker Big Racing Guns Past Month VanderbiltGrayHasEarnings Of 92,250; Wee Willie1 Increases Win Total to 27 J Alfred G. Vanderbilts three-year-old champion, Native Dancer, and "Wee Willie" Shoemaker supplied the outstanding achievements among the national leaders during the one-month period of May 26 through June 25. Native Dancer, the gray ghost from Sagamore, captured the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park June 13 for his fifth stakes triumph in six starts this year to boost his 1953 earnings to 92,250. This total gives the Vanderbilt ace an advantage of almost 00,000 over Calumet Farms Mark-Ye -Well among the leading money-winning horses. Native Dancers sizable sum includes second-place money in the Kentucky Derby. Mark-Ye-Well, idle since the Santa Anita meeting, has put 99,050 into the Calumet "bank" since January 1. Shoemaker, now showing his uncanny ability at Hollywood Park in sunny California, is far and away ahead of his nearest competitor in the race for 1953 jockey honors. Shoemaker had 211 winners including the racing of June 25, which was exactly 76 more triumphs than Tony De-Spirito, last years riding champion, had amassed. Both boasted percentages of .28. The leader in the average department was A. Gomez with a .30 mark although Gomez hasnt been nearly as active in the saddle as Shoemaker or DeSpirito. Astride Six Winners June 20 Boosting the Shoemaker total no little were six victories on Saturday, June 20, a Hollywood riding record. Calumet Farm, although somewhat in a state of lethargy since Santa Anita, continues to lead the money-winning owners list with 61,622 despite the "charge" of Native Dancer and several good runners in the Vanderbilt string. In third place among the leading owners is the Greentree Stable with 64,430, of which the versatile Tom Fool had added 1,180. Tom Fools contribution does not include, of course, 1,700 he picked up by accounting easily for the Carter Handicap at Aqueduct last Saturday. R. H. "Red" McDaniel, 1953 trainer titlist, still is showing the way again this year. McDaniel leads with 90 successes. His nearest rival is William Hal Bishop with 79 winners. McDaniel is at Hollywood, Bishop at Chicagos Arlington Park. Willie Molter, another Californian at or near the top during the past several years, is third with 64.
