SundownerAccordedEdge For Stake at Delaware McHugh Fencer Has Five Foes In Spring Maiden Steeplechase DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 29. The ,000 added Delaware Spring Maiden Steeplechase, second in a series of three races offered at Belmont Park, Aqueduct and. this point for maidens at the time of closing, features tomorrows local program. The overnight field for the about two-mile test promises an interesting running, with following named to compete: James F. McHughs Sundowner, F. Amrose Clarks Ben Tally-Ho and Lord Ivor, the Rokeby Stables-Rock Hill Farm coupling of Benbow and Virginius, W. M. Duryeas Swords Point and Mrs. S. T. Pattersons Thermion. Sundowner, who was acquired by his present owner for 5,000 from the Rigan McKiney dispersal, is expected to improve considerably over his recent steeplechase debute in which he was third in the Tom Roby, and could come up the public choice. He scored three victories and a pair of seconds in five starts last year, with all efforts being over the less difficult hurdles. He handled the higher jumps rather well in the Roby and certainly is expected to improve. The winner of the Roby, In the good time of 3:50, was Benbow, who held a two-length -advantage over Sundowner, with Monkey Wrench separating them. The latter came back to finish second behind The Mast in the Georgestown. Benbow has a pair of victories, a second and a third in five engagements. His stablemate, Virginius, also boasts a good record, with two wins, a second and a pair of thirds to his credit prior to finishing about 20 lengths behind Errolford in the Temple Gwathmey. Ben Tally-Ho was also a winner over the local steeplechase course, his time of 3:49 being slightly better than that of Benbow. That was the first victory of the year in four starts for the Flushing U. gelding. Lord Ivor, somewhat of a speedster, made his initial steeplechase appearance in that race and was beaten off while finishing fourth. About 10 lengths behind him -was Swords Point, who was making his first start since 1951.
