James Dempsey Found Dead NEW ORLEANS, La., June 29. James Patrick Dempsey, 56, local oil man and widely known on the major race tracks throughout the country, was found dead today in a business district hotel, the victim of a heart attack. Dempsey, one-time sports writer for the New York Times, had been a resident of the local hotel for the past nine years. His remains are being returned to his Butte, Montana, home for burial.
