APPIAN WAY rapidly wore down the leaders racing on the outside, carried her speed evenly through the stretch and easily drew away. LORD CHADWYNNE, steadied racing between horses, was not called upon until the stretch and then closed willingly. GOOD TUNE was alertly hustled setting the pace and faltered when headed. RINGOLD had no excuse. HIT BIT had speed and faltered. VALENTINOIS was outrun and circled wide in the stretch. ROMANDALE was. outrun. CANARIS UNSEATED RIDER AT THE GATE, RAN OFF AND JUMPED THE RAIL INTO THE STABLE AREA. HE WAS ORDERED WITHDRAWN AND ALL WAGERS ON HIM WERE REFUNDED. ALLEGRETTO was clearly best, sprinted away to a long lead from the start, appeared to be menaced when given a breather in the early stretch, but responded when punished and held SLAMMINHARP safe. The latter began alertly, but could not stay with the winner, then closed well under punishment in the stretchun. TOKYO GIRL raced evenly in a good effort. GERRY GRAYSON and the others were not prominent. A- post delay was caused when BIRD CALL ran off at" a slow clip for a half-mile with her rider and was returned for replacement of a broken saddle. LADY BALLADIER raced prominently placed, repeatedly swerved in the drive, but finished well. CLOTTED CREAM was slow to settle in stride, but finished well. MISS ALABAMA broke slowly. MOST CHARMING was taken back strongly while attempting to bear out on the far turn. CORTINA II. raced wide and tired. ASPIRE showed nothing. TANGLEWOOD quit early. IF I was a sharp contender from the beginning, shook off rivals to open a long; lead in the stretch and lasted in handy fashion. STAR OF PERSIA worked forwardly through the field, then finished strongly, despite attempting to lug In. SEER was never far back, but lacked an effective rally. TIME BREAK was a formidable factor racing on the outside, but weakened after a half-mile. BILLIES BEAM closed well in the final stages. CEDAR JUNGE faltered. WAR POPPY could not keep up. HI BILLEE had the most speed, drew clear without n need of urging on the stretch turn and won with authority. CORFEL was steadied in a forward position and finished Yell to draw clear of the others. YAMA pressed the early pace, was briefly steadieed inside the winner on the final turn and then weakened. LUCK PENNY raced behind horses into the stretch, lacked room " to improve position into the last eighth, then finished well. PASS BON did not respond to urging. NECKTIE settled into command at the start, set an even pace and, while bearing out under left-hand punishment in the early stretch, drew away from opposition. ROMAN ROCKET raced in closest attendance to the winner, saved ground in the drive and held on well to best SAKR-EL-BAHR. The latter, snugly restrained racing outside of the top pair, loomed dangerously when roused on the turn, but tired and lugged in in the final drive. G. R. PETERSEN refused to extend himself early. GIANT CRACKER was handled alertly at the beginning, easily disposed of OLD GLENDALE and held a commanding lead entering the last sixteenth, then was eased up for the finish. OLD GLENDALE quickly sprinted to the front, saved ground and lasted under strong pressure to hold THITHER. The latter slipped through an opening on the inside at the head of the stretch, then finished determinedly. GANGLAND, outrun to the stretch, bore out to the middle of the track closing belatedly. HANGOVER, steadied after a quick start, was carried wide into the stretch by INDIAN FILE. The latter bore out on the turn. Scratched 15364 Woodlands, 114; 164124 Wolf Gal, 109. SUNLIGHT JESS saved ground improving position, was taken up and to the outside of GREAT HABIT on the final turn, then again followed the rail in the stretch and put away contention under punishment. CAILLOU, rated closest to the pace, wrested command when punished but had little, left at the end. HANDILY was put to pressure after five furlongs and faltered when displaced in the last eighth. SIR GOYA was outrun". GREAT HABIT broke poorly, quickly gained a forward position, but tired. BRANDYS LAST was not a threat. ROMALAY gave a poor effort.
