Won driving; second and third the same. DOUBLE BARREL, off alertly, was close to the pace from the start, and taking a short lead on the backstretch, increased it nearing the stretch turn, then saved ground but had to be at his best to hold I FROO. The latter was in close quarters on the inside in the early running then came to the outside in the stretch and was gaining on the winner. MR. TOPS bore out on the second turn, then improved his position on the outside in the last quarter. TOP STOCKINGS was in rather tight-quarters on the inside around the far turn. EARL, JR. and AMBROSE ACE had some early foot. The others were outpaced. . BOBESSAY was under light wraps -while following the pace closely for three-eighths, then went to the front nearing the stretch turn to widen on his opponents and win easily. AMERICAN PLAN reached contention after rounding the first turn and went well to the finish. PARALYTE closed some ground and was racing well at the finish. BROWN SMOKE dropped back on the back-stretch, but came fairly well through the stretch. OUR GIFT was outpaced. HOOP GANO had early speed, but tired. MARABOUT and ROAMING OSCAR stopped badly. DEGREE moved up strongly nearing the stretch turn to catch the early leaders weakening and draw out under hand riding. CHANCE ALARM was outrun to the stretch and then raced wide but finished well. VALIDITY, badly outpaced in the first part, finished fast on the inside. STAR DIVER was prominent early and showed an inclination to race wide. SUITURSELF tired badly in the stretch after having made the pace. SUNNY CAPRI also tired. THISTLE WAR was saved for slightly better than a half mile, then came very fast on the outside after leaving the backstretch and, although racing ver? wide on the stretch turn, clupg to a narrow advantage and had enough left to hold STRONGPLAY. The latter, ridden with seeming confidence, was allowed to trail the field for better than half the trip, then came wide in the stretch, but was gaining at the end. VILAS was always close up and cut the corner on the stretch turn to draw up with the leaders, but was not good enough. ERRARD BEAU had the most early speed but tired. DEPAL and TAOS CROSS also tired. KNOWABLE was outrun to the stretch, then raced wide, but finished with good courage. CHERIFUL had the most early speed, but strayed from the rail on the far turn and was headed when MERRY SWEEPER came through the opening and weakened in the final drive. COLORADO FOX made up ground in the stretch. HOPEIDO lost much ground in racing wide throughout and tired. ALFRED BOULDER also tired. The others were outpaced. Overweight Cheriful, 2 pounds. RUN RED RUN was outpaced to the stretch, then responded to urging to best GORGEOUS MISS. The latter also finished well after having been close up most of the way. FLYING BRY had speed for a half mile, but faltered in the final drive. LOVIN LADY made up some ground. DARLIN ANN tired. LONS CHOICE was required to ease when in close quarters next the rail after going three-eighths and, continuing on the inside, was again in tight on the back-stretch, but his rider persisted to send him through an opening in the last sixteenth and to get him to the front in the closing strides. PIPAROO was outrun early and lost some ground on the stretch turn, but finished gmaely. POSSESS was always a good contender and showed in front on the stretch turn, then held on fairly well. SHERIFF GROSCH went with a fair degree of courage after being headed. BUSY NOW had some early speed. The others were outpaced. Piparoo claimed by R. Fisher. THE PHOENIX was under restraint while making the pace and passed by BONSAND entering the backstretch, was in close quarters and was eased, then came again on the inside in the stretch. HAPPY EAST beat the others away but was unable to retain any advantage and was inclined to race wide. BONSAND was used up trying to get tp the front and weakened. SURPRISING tired. Overweight Wahoo, 2 pounds. Attendance, 9,553; Total Mutuel Pool, 82,161.
