Fifty-Eight Made Eligible To Westerner on July 3 HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., May 11. Hollywood Park is looking forward to the greatest three-year-old competition ever staged in western racing when the annual 50 -day season opens Friday. This was the prediction of vice-president and general manager James D. Stewart today in his announcement that 58 thoroughbreds, including several Derby winners, an English champion,- and many other stakes winning stars, had been nominated for the 0,000-added Westerner, July 3. The Westerner, at a mile and a quarter, annually decides the best three -year-old of the Hollywood meeting. The six-furlong Will Rogers, which is limited to colts and geldings, is the first of the important stakes in this age division leading up to the championship event. Heading the Westerner nominees is Andrew J. Crevdlins Determine, who led up to his recent sensational Kentucky Derby victory with wins in the Santa Anita and Bay Meadows derbys. Five horses who raced in the Kentucky Derby are listed for the Westerner, with Correlation, winner of the 00,000 Florida Derby and 00,000 Wood Memorial; James Session, Allied and Black Metal also in the line-up.
